Coachella Valley, California

WHERE THE
DUST BEGINS.

The Coachella Valley is California date country. Hot days, dry desert air and generations of date growing have made the palm part of the landscape here.

It is also where Desert Dust found the ingredient that changed everything.

SUN-GROWN.

Dates have been grown commercially in the Coachella Valley for more than a century.

They like what the desert has plenty of: heat and light. They also need irrigation and growers who know how to work with this unusually hot landscape.

Today, palms remain one of the valley’s most recognizable crops.

WHY DATES?

We use organic Coachella Valley dates instead of refined sugar. They bring a little sweetness with something behind it: body, depth and a roundness that pulls the spices together.

Dates do more. That’s why they’re in the bottle.

SUGAR IS SWEET. DATES ARE MORE INTERESTING.

Sweetness is only part of the story. We wanted an ingredient with flavor of its own, something that contributes to the whole blend.

The fact they were growing right on our doorstep? Even better.

A LITTLE SWEET.
A LOT OF SAVORY.

The dates are there to round things out, not take over. A little sweetness alongside the spices, bringing balance to the whole blend.

Chicken on the grill. A tray of roasted vegetables. Whatever’s heading into the pan.

Turns out dates belong on dinner.

GOOD QUESTIONS.

WHY DATES INSTEAD OF REFINED SUGAR?

For flavor. Dates bring sweetness, body and depth, giving us more to work with than sweetness alone. They’re part of the seasoning’s character, not just the sweet part.

WILL DATES MAKE MY FOOD SWEET?

Expect a little sweetness, balanced by the spices. Our date-based seasonings are built for savory cooking, with dates rounding out the flavor rather than taking over.

HOW DO DATES BECOME SEASONING?

They’re dried, ground and mixed through the blend.

DO YOU USE REFINED SUGAR?

We don’t use refined sugar. Dates, like all fruits, contain naturally occurring sugars.
